Business model

The AFFITOME® technology from AFFiRiS delivers innovative vaccines for therapeutic treatment of chronic diseases with unmet medical need and attractive markets.

We are currently developing vaccines against Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and atherosclerosis, and also against four other diseases. Development at AFFiRiS always starts at “zero”, with the idea how to target a serious disease using vaccination. The idea is then developed in the lab until a patent application can be launched. Following this, pre-clinical work is continued to create a data package required to commence phase I clinical testing in humans. The primary endpoint in phase I is to demonstrate the safety and tolerance of the vaccines. If this is successful, a phase II clinical trial will be conducted. Here, the primary endpoint is to get evidence for potential efficacy. The business model of AFFiRiS is aimed at licensing out the rights to the vaccines to a pharmaceutical partner after phase II at the latest. However, a licensing agreement might be concluded at an earlier stage in development for example as soon as the corresponding patent application has been filed. One successful deal of a pre phase II development has already been achieved. In October 2008, our Alzheimer’s vaccine approach was licensed to GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals   more
